Laparoscopic Varicocele Repair Surgery - Does it Really Work?

 What are Varicoceles?

An abnormal growth in the scrotum is called the vericocele which is of the pampini form venous plexus. This plexus of scrotum veins is the cause of draining of the testicles. The blood vessel of the testicular starts from the abdomen region and pass down as the part of spermatic cord via inguinal canal towards the testis. The blood flow to upward direction is functioned by the one-way valve which is small in size and avoids back flow of the blood. The compression of the veins or the defective valves of the surrounded structure is the reason of testicular veins dilatation near by the testis, can be the cause of the abnormal vericocele growth. It is among the major cause of male infertility issue and can be cure using various non-surgical or surgical methods.

 What Causes Varicocele?

Each testicle is hold up by the spermatic cord. This spermatic cord also consists of nerves, arteries and veins which support the gland. In a healthy vein structure, the small one-way valves flows the blood upward towards the scrotum from the testicles which is then send back to the heart. In some cases the flow of blood does not flow accordingly, which leads the blood store in the veins, and becomes the cause of enlargement of the gland. The actual reason behind the growth of the varicocele is unclear and no reported risk is noted due to vericocele. This growth of vericocele takes place very slowly in male between the ages of 15-20 mostly.

What Are the Symptoms of Varicocele?

There are no such symptoms noted which is associated with vericocele problem, However, individuals might experience some, which includes:
  • Swelling in the scrotum region
  • A Lump in one of the testicles
  • A recurring yet dull pain in the scrotum
  • Twisted and enlarged veins in the scrotum which are practically visible

What Are the Risk Factors for VARICOCELE?

The abnormal growth of developing a vericocele has no such significant risk factor associated with it. On the other hand, based on a research study it is shown that being taller can increase the risk factor and the risk factor of vericocele can be reduced if the person is over-weight.

 How Are VARICOCELE REPAIR Treated?

It is always not necessary to opt for the repair surgery. But in some cases if the vericocele is becoming the cause of testicular atrophy, pain and infertility or in some scenario you have planned to undergo ART (assisted reproductive techniques), and then there may be the chances are rising of having a vericocele repair surgery.
The main goal of the surgery is to seal off the veins which get affected in the manner of re-directing the blood flow into the normal veins of scrotum. In cases where individuals are experiencing male infertility issues, the vericocele repair treatment can possible improve the outcome of the infertility treatment and also enhance the sperm quality, if the techniques like IVF (in vitro fertilization) is used to treat infertility.
Varicocele repair surgery might have some of the associated risk factors, which always depend on individual cases, which can include:
  • Recurrence of vericocele
  • Buildup of hydrocele (fluid) around testicles
  • Damage to artery
  • Infection
  • Testicular atrophy

Some of the Vericocele Repair Surgical Procedures are:
  • Open surgery
  • Laparoscopic surgery
  • Percutaneous embolization

Does laparoscopic VARICOCELE REPAIR SURGERY really Works?

Laparoscopic varicocele repair surgery is one of the latest and most advanced repair surgeries. In this surgery the surgeon will do a small incision via your abdomen region and inserts a very small device via the incision to see and repair the varicocele. This process is the most demanded procedure as it needs small incision so the complication and recovery time also reduces significantly.
